TIPS TO DECIDE THE BEST TIME TO VISIT
Some people ask that question - wondering the best time to visit Tombstone. It can depend on a variety of things. Let's throw the questions back at you! Put all these hints together to figure out your best answer!!
CRYSTAL PALACE SALOON ON A TYPICAL DAY
1 - Do you have young children? - -
~ ~ Arrive early & plan your trip for weekends or late in the week. Some shops/attractions are closed Mondays & a few on Tuesdays as well. There's less to choose from to keep them entertained.
~ ~ Also remember: get to town early. If it's summer, it'll be cooler then. Whatever season, most things to do close around 5 p.m.

2 - What About Heat? Control It! - -
~ ~ You may know - or have heard: Arizona, it's a DRY heat! That's true, it can make a big difference. What you might not have realized: elevation matters!
~ ~ It makes a big difference here! Tombstone is just over 4,540 ft. That's a little more than 2,150 ft. higher than Tucson; a bit more than 3,450 ft. higher than Phoenix.
~ ~ The higher you go, the lower the temp! In general, in the summer Tombstone's about 8 - 10 degrees lower than Tucson & can be up to 15 or 18 degrees lower than Phoenix!
~ ~ Remember this - June is the hottest month.
~ ~ I would recommend Autumn or Winter for a visit. Temperatures are mostly in the 70s & 60s then. Usually sunny, with an occasional refreshing shower.

~ ~ If it must be a summer visit, because of school vacations - a great time is during Monsoon season. It effectively occupies July & Aug., often going into Sept. Many days more clouds help decrease temps. They build up & produce cooling thunderstorms. Temps can drop 10 to 15 degrees in an hour!

~ ~ Another idea is to plan for Tombstone at Twilight. The temps also drop with sundown - often up to 10 to 15 degrees! Usually it's the last Saturday of the month. Check it out - Read More Here>
3 - Do you love special events? - -
~ ~ Most months something special is going on! Helldorado is the biggest event of all, in October. Check out our Events Page for a Special Happening for Visit Planning!
STRONGHOLD BROTHERS PLAYING AT BIG NOSE KATES
4 - Are you here for Adult Entertainment or Date Night? - -
~ ~ Forget Mon. & maybe even Tues! You'll find karaoke Wed. thru Sun. night somewhere! Plus poker at Doc Holliday's on Tuesday night & later in the week, evenings at Big Iron.
~ ~ Bands at the Crystal Palace & Big Nose Kate's usually on Fri. & Sat. in the winter. Four Deuces often has Sat. bands. Some Fri. cut-backs when it slows down toward summer - give any of them a call to check.
~ ~ Restaurants all stay open into the evening. They serve food until 8 p.m. or so. Don't miss out on one local favorite, just out of the main downtown area. Head East up Allen Street to the corner of Tenth: The Depot (great steaks, best Mexican food in town) & Ringo's Bar (best pizza in town).
5 - Do you prefer to avoid crowds? - -
~ ~ Then summer (if you can do warmer weather) is the better time for you! Actually the temperature doesn't get over 100 too many days. As mentioned, June is the hottest month - and probably the slowest.
But the average daytime high in June is 94 degrees Fahrenheit. Just on occasion a "heat-wave" will creep in - that's when it'll get to 101 or 103.
~ ~ And of course, a week-day will be less busy than a week-end.

JUNE'S EVENTS: INSIDER UPDATE REVIEW
Buffalo Soldier Days
The Tombstone Lions Club sponsors this yearly event, held the last weekend in June. It was a fun time with lots of people visiting town. Many events were planned.
It's a tribute to the Buffalo Soldier Regiments: the 9th & 10th cavalry & the 38th, 39th, 40th & 41st infantry regiments of the U.S. Army. They were African Americans proudly serving to show their desire to be a part of the U.S.
Their primary role was protection of Western settlers & supporting American expansion by infrastructure work. Reenactment & tribute groups from around the country attend the event.
Gunfights, historic skits, mock hangings, contests - all kinds of fun times went on during the day on Allen Street, between Fourth & Sixth Streets. Entertainment in the evenings as well, in the saloons!
A NEW YEARLY EVENT
Val Kilmer Visiting Tombstone
In August, Val Kilmer will be visiting Tombstone to meet locals and visitors. It will be kicking off a new yearly event to be named "Doc Holli-Days" - Yes, that's the name! We'll be adding it to our Event Page very soon.
But here's an advance note you can take a look at:

JUST IN - June 29th - Just heard in town, rumor has it that this is now not a done deal! Even though he'll be selling his autographed items, "artwork" & other memorabilia - it seems Kilmer has an asking price for his appearance that keeps increasing. It may be getting beyond the town's budget to accommodate!
We'll have to see what happens between now & August! Plus - will this hamper the plans to make Doc
Holli-Days a yearly event?
